european sales and hire ... camper hire

Please note: this page only lists companies that specifically offer rental of demountable campers. Unless they meet that criterion, it does not include the numerous companies that hire out other kinds of motorhome. You can find further information on the camper makes and models, where specified, by looking them up on the 'manufacturers' pages.

France
No Mad Evasion - French manufacturer No Mad Evasion will rent you one of their demountable 'Evasion Plus' campers but you've got to already have the pickup (extended- or double-cab) to carry it. There's no explanation as to how they propose to fix one to the other but, if you've hired the pickup as well, the rental company might have something to say if No Mad start drilling holes everywhere!

Germany
• Autohaus Ernst - Autohaus Ernst have a Tischer camper (a 'Box 240') on an Isuzu D-Max for hire. Details and costs are available on the website.
• Büsching Tuning - Büsching offers rental of three Tischer models, a 'Box 240', a 'Box 275' and a 'Trail 305 CS'. In each case they can be hired with or without an appropriate truck. The website has comprehensive details and costs.
• deVries & Dahmen - deVries & Dahmen claim, with justification as far as I know, to offer the only opportunity to hire a Bimobil demountable, specifically a 'Husky 240L'. Because of Bimobil's unique mounting/demounting system the rental necessarily includes the pickup (a Nissan Navara) as well as the camper. Details and costs are available on the English language website.
• Erento - listed on Erento's German website, rental of this Four Wheel pop-top camper can be booked online but there is very little additional information available.
• Uwe Hollenbacher - another opportunity to hire a 'Box 240' from Tischer dealership Uwe Hollenbacher. You need to already have an appropriately equipped double- or extended-cab pickup.
• Wohnkabinecenter - German Wohnkabinecenter hires out two models of camper, the Camp-Crown 'Europa Deluxe' and the Four Wheel 'Wildcat', either with or without an appropriate pickup.
• Womo-Haus - Womo-Haus have a Tischer demountable for hire - a 'Box 240'. It can be hired alone if you have your own pickup, or on a Nissan Navara if not.

Iceland
Iceland's wild and rugged terrain lends itself to exploration by 4-wheel drive vehicle - in fact much of the interior highland can only be seen that way. For that reason there are more companies hiring out trucks and demountable campers there than you might expect. Mind you, they do all claim to be the largest!

• Bílaleiga Akureyrar - Bílaleiga Akureyrar, "Iceland's largest car hire operator", holds the enormous Europcar franchise in Iceland, with some 2000 vehicles, but also rents out at least one FiS pop-top camper on a Toyota Hilux.
• Camper Iceland - Camper Iceland, "the biggest motorhome and camper rental station in Iceland", rent out two sizes of Sun-Lite hard-side campers on Dodge and Ford trucks.
• JS Camper Rental - JS, "the largest camper rental in Iceland", have 30 pickup/camper combinations for hire. They offer both hard-side and pop-top campers on Dodge Ram and Mitsubishi L200 trucks respectively.

Italy
Vacanze in Fuoristrada - Vacanze in Fuoristrada (Off-road Holidays) offer rental of either a camper unit alone or a camper unit on a pickup. Sadly not all the details are available on the English language version of the website (click on the Union Jack flag) where a number of pages appear to be "Under Construction". Although they are certainly not full expedition vehicles, the pickups and the campers look capable of a degree of what the site calls "adventure travel".

Netherlands
Dick Voltman - Dick Voltman is Tischer's agent in the Netherlands. As well as selling the campers he has one, a 'Trail 280S' on a VW Transporter, for hire. Prices, details and terms and conditions (click on 'verhuur voorwaarden') are included on the website.

Sweden
Camper - the website is a little short on detailed information but Camper AB offer one of their GRP-bodied campers for hire. The line "curious to try one before you buy your own camper?" perhaps indicates that they hope rental of their product may lead to purchase of the same.

Switzerland
• Riepert - A.Riepert holds the concession for Tischer demountable campers in Switzerland and has two for hire, both the 'Box 240' model. Once again you've got to have your own pickup though, equipped with a European-standard, 13-pin towing socket. If it does not have appropriate fixings to secure a camper, Riepert will fit them for you.
• Tartaruga - although there are no specific details on their website, Tartaruga invite you "to rent one of our top-modern motorhomes". Whether, or not, that offer could include one of the demountable Nordstar campers which they import from Sweden is not clear.

UK
• Apollo Motorhomes - there's very little detailed information on their website but UK-based manufacturer Apollo offer one of their own four-berth, demountable campers for hire on a Nissan Navarra pickup.

WHAT'S ON THIS PAGE

Given the rarity of demountable truck campers in Europe it is perhaps not surprising that there are few opportunities to hire them. The sites on this page all offer that opportunity. For some, camper rental is their only business, others may be camper manufacturers offering rental as a try-before-you-buy sideline.

If you know of others, please let me know.
